In the summer of 2017 a friend and I embarked on a motorcycle adventure from Santa Barbara, CA to Topeka, KS. We allowed ourselves 12 days, and had only one required stop near Alamosa, CO along the way.
What we didn’t realize when was that many of the parts we rode through that first day would soon after be ravaged by California’s largest wildfire ever, the Thomas Fire.

Oh yes, it’s a thing. It’s a wonderful thing. It’s a difficult thing. It’s something I’ll never forget.
I completed the ride back in July of 2016. I planned to complete the journey in twelve to fourteen days, but managed to finish in nine. My KTM 1190, which I affectionately call “Godzilla,” demolishes miles. I’ve ridden all the big bikes. Nothing is like the KTM 1190. It’s lighter, faster, more graceful, and more athletic.
